Tabitha with a Himalayan bowl tuned to 432 hz

About

Tabitha Barbé founded Soundbath Sophia in 2023. She's reaped the relief of musical healing since she was a child, and as a young adult living abroad, first learning about singing bowls in the 2010s.

As a journalist in a high-pressure Nashville, Tennessee newsroom, Tabitha often kept an earbud in set to specific sounds. She then realized certain tones and frequencies could help her cope with, and clear, the negative energy she faced daily.

From 2019-2020, Tabitha benefited from the Hypnobabies program as a wife and mother. Daily positive affirmations coupled with theta binaural beats music shifted her pregnancy, birthing and postpartum experience. This new knowledge led to more research and discovery.

She and her family found daily support within sound healing music online during the uncertainties of 2020 and 2021. She began to share favorite tracks and eventually realized her path with sound healing wasn't only to receive it, but to co-create and share it.

Tabitha is passionate about the connection between pure Sound, Christian mysticism, and the Universe. As a new homesteader and budding herbalist, she’s excited to add to her community. She enjoys connecting with anyone curious to experience sound healing, and those who already know the benefits firsthand.

With sound healing certifications already earned from Life Changing Energy through The Complementary Medical Association, Tabitha completed her diploma in integral sound healing - multi instruments - groups at the end of 2024 through the prestigious International Academy of Sound Healing.

What to Know

  • Ancient healing traditions all over the world use sound as medicinal therapy. Indigenous wisdom keepers even today recognize the relationship between sound, healing, and ascending to higher states of consciousness, with music, chanting and worship.

Additionally, the Pythagoreans (500-300 BC) associated the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, each with a specific musical interval that touched life on Earth — “the music of the spheres.” Hippocrates said all disease resulted from disharmony within the body, and he used music to help restore balance.

In the Old Testament we find the anointed future king, David, would play the harp for King Saul so that the spirit tormenting him would depart. With David’s playing, King Saul would become rejuvenated. (1 Samuel 16:23.)

  • The Earth’s magnetic field (Schumann resonance) oscillates around 7.8 Hz and corresponds with the brainwave state where we are chill, relaxed, and ready to be creative (somewhere around Theta-Alpha). Research has caused neuroscientists to accept brain neuroplasticity, that is, we can retrain or train our brains to alter neural pathways. That leads to a tremendous influence on our holistic health.

  • Delta 0.5-4Hz The slow Delta frequency, deep relaxation, deep sleep, detachment: the kingdom of the unconscious mind. Deep sleep goes hand in hand with regeneration and many healing processes. Since it’s slowest band of the brainwaves, healing can even occur while being unconscious. It’s necessary to take it slow in order to speed up the optimum healing frequency.

Theta 4-7.5Hz - Theta (subconscious) brain waves come about during REM (rapid eye movement) dream and hypnotic states, deep meditation and light sleep. Think of it as a door that opens to give you a wonderful glimpse into the realm of your subconscious, experienced while drifting off to sleep and awakening from deep Delta sleep. In theta, you’re conscious of your created reality around you but since you’re in a relaxed state, you can experience vivid inspirations, revelations and deep spiritual connection and Oneness. Also associated with memorable dreams.

Alpha 7.5-12 Hz - Deep relaxation brainwaves, known as alpha, usually occur with eyes shut, in deep relaxation. Alpha brain states unlock better memory, concentration and imagination. Associated with a relaxed state of mind, not processing too much into our consciousness, such as light meditation. Alpha is the bridge between Beta and Theta.

Beta 13-24 Hz - conscious, waking state, alertness, critical reasoning. You need these to function well, but you don’t want to be in beta too much, since it could lead to overthinking and anxiousness. this is when we are wide awake, focusing on external realities right in front of us.

Gamma 25-100Hz - They’re the fastest brainwave with the tiniest amplitude. Also, it seems there’s a correlation between transcendental mental states and gamma waves based on studies on some Tibetan monks.

  • Entrainment is all around us, as well as inside our bodies.

The science of it is the study of one system falling into step with another. Described in 1665 by Dutch scientist and clockmaker Christian Huygens, who realized multiple clocks on a beam together usually swing in unison after a period of time.

For instance, place a tuning fork on the side of a glass, then tap it, and the water in the glass vibrates at the same frequency as the tuning fork.

Entrainment happens with two or more oscillators, or rhythmic cycles. It can occur in sound therapy when a person hears a frequency and their body matches it.

  • It sounds confusing, yet binaural beats don’t exist, and are not a sound. Binaural beats are an auditory illusion realized when one frequency tone (pure tone sine wave with frequency less than 1500 Hz) plays in one ear while a different tone plays in the opposite ear at the same time. If there's less than 40 Hz between the two tones, the brain then creates a third tone that’s equal to the difference between the two. For instance, if one tone plays in your right ear with a frequency of 133 Hz, and the other in your left ear at a frequency of 141 Hz, the brain will process the difference and arrive at a new frequency, altering your brain waves. Binaural beats trigger the brain to create alpha and theta waves, leading to meditative and calm states of mind.

There are many benefits, but our favorites tend to be calmer thoughts, greater relaxation and better sleep — not to mention better concentration when studying and focusing on projects.

  • How does sound affect the body, emotions, mind, soul and spirit?
Sound can reset our cell patterns with sonic waves and vibrations on the cellular level. When those vibrations calm inflammation and relaxes our muscles, it can relieve pain, promote blood circulation, lymph flow, and balance the nervous system. Sound encourages the body to boost its natural healing abilities. After all, look at how sound affects water. Then consider that 70 percent of our bodies are made up of water, and you have a beautiful picture at how sound affects the physical body. We know it impacts our bioenergy fields — meridians, aura, chakras, etc., which influence physical conditions. Sound can lead us to levels of healing otherwise difficult for some to attain on this plane. The healing we want the most - health, peace, acceptance, may be facilitated with Sound, and studies indicate this.

  • When we use integral sound healing we’re working on not simply symptoms, but holistically treating and facilitating healing for a person. This means integrating the five elements, the latest science, art, musicality, and integrating ancient wisdom and healing alchemy. It embraces the mysterious, but is full of grace.

  • While sound healing often can be helpful to pregnant women and babies, pregnant mothers should be cautious when participating especially during the first 12 weeks. We avoid placing sound instruments on the body during pregnancy

Those with extreme mental health conditions or sound-induced epilepsy should always consult their health care provider before deciding to use sound healing as a therapeutic modality.

We advise those with heart pacemakers, stents, and shunts to remain a minimum distance of 8 inches from our instruments. We never use instruments directly on or near metal implants.

We will not place instruments on open wounds or unhealed scars and those with recent nerve damage should avoid the vibrations of healing sounds.
